The main international airports in Spain are “Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport” (recommended) and “Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat International Airport”.
There is also a small airport in the City of Valladolid that offers connections to and from Barcelona and Paris.
Connections from Madrid International Airport (Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas) to Ávila
A. Directly by Bus directions_bus
There is a direct bus from Madrid Barajas Airport Terminal T1 to Avila. The bus stop is located in the bus parking area, in front of the T1 Arrivals area, floor 0.
There is a free bus shuttle between the terminals.

There is only one daily bus from/to Madrid Airport.
For attendees with late/early flights, the best option is to stay one night in Madrid, there are many hotels close to the airport with a shuttle bus to/from the airport.

B. By Car directions_car
Ávila is located just 121 km from Madrid, so you can also opt to travel by car. Both cities are well connected by highway and the estimated travel time is 1 hour.
Madrid-Barajas airport offers a wide number of car rental companies. The offices are spread throughout the arrivals areas of terminals T1 and T4 and the parking garages at each terminal.
C. By Train directions_train
You can travel to Ávila by train from Madrid. There are departures from “Principe Pio” Station (faster) and from “Chamartín” Station.
The train journey from Madrid to Ávila takes 1.5 hours and trains run every 1 to 2 hours. The service is provided by RENFE
(https://www.renfe.com/es/en).

Firstly, you need to travel from the airport to one of these train stations in the center of Madrid.
To do so, you can easily get to the train stations by taxi from the airport (flat rate: 30€). Otherwise we recommend the following public transport options:
- Airport to Príncipe Pío station:
- From terminals T1-T2-T3:
- Metro: take line 8 (pink) from “Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3”, accessible from floor 1 of terminal T2, to “Nuevos Ministerios” (end of the line).
Once there, switch to line 10 (dark blue) towards “Puerta del Sur” and get off at “Príncipe Pío” (travel time: 25 mins)
- From terminal T4:
- Local train (“Cercanías RENFE”): Take lines C-1 or C-10 from Cercanías RENFE station “Aeropuerto T4”,
located at floor -1, directly to “Principe Pío” (end of line C-1) (travel time: 44 mins)
- Metro: take line 8 (pink) from Metro station “Aeropuerto T4” to “Nuevos Ministerios” (end of the line).
Once there, switch to line 10 (dark blue) towards “Puerta del Sur” and get off at “Príncipe Pío” (travel time: 34 mins)
- Airport to Chamartín station:
- From terminals T1-T2-T3:
- Metro: take line 8 (pink) from “Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3” to “Nuevos Ministerios” (end of the line).
Once there, switch to line 10 (dark blue) towards “Hospital Infanta Sofía” and get off at “Chamartín” (travel time: 25 mins)
- From terminal T4:
- Local train (“Cercanías RENFE”): Take lines C-1 or C-10 from Cercanías RENFE station “Aeropuerto T4”,
located at floor -1, directly to “Chamartín” (travel time: 19 mins)
There is also a free bus shuttle between the terminals (travel time 30 mins).
Tickets for the Metro and Cercanías/RENFE are available either from both self-service machines and ticket offices.

Connections from Barcelona Airport to Ávila

From Valladolid Villanubla airport you can easily get to the train station by taxi.
There is also a regular bus service from the airport to the “Valladolid Campo Grande train station”,
operated by Linecar (https://www.linecar.es/metropolitano/valladolid/).
Once at the train station, you can take the train to Ávila, the service is provided by the Renfe company.
The duration of the trip is of 75 minutes approximately and the trains run regularly on this route (https://www.renfe.com).

Avila is located just 145 km from Valladolid, so you can also opt to travel by car.
