In this abstract, we presented our approach to discern emergent properties of a system resulting due to interactions that take place in the system. A particular application context is considered so as to build an implementable model.

There are a few caveats in the proposed approaches which are elaborated in [4]. However, the models proposed are implementable in the application contexts of inter organizational workflow, design of virtual organizations, supply chain management, collaboration design among autonomous departments (like in a hospital), etc. Our larger endeavor is to manage, what we call an ``ad hoc system'' - or a system consisting of autonomous actors pursuing individual goals and collaborating with one another. Administration of an ad hoc system requires characterization of an ``interaction schema'' that characterizes the collaborative activities. A preliminary approach towards that end has been presented in this paper.
