The objective of this tutorial will be to familiarise the audience with the basics as well as the state of the art in disconnected browsing - accessing the Web from mobile computers. The tutorial will have two parts. The first will provide an overview of the challenges posed by mobile systems, and also a short overview of the Web ó http, HTML and Java. In the second part we will describe and analyse the issues involved in creating systems for disconnected browsing, such as proxy-scion architectures, disconnection management, co-operative information gathering and multimedia transformation. We will conclude with a critical review of existing systems. The intended audience is academics, students, IT executives and managers.

A new class of models, formalisms and mechanisms has recently evolved for describing concurrent and distributed computations based on the concept of ìcoordinationî. The purpose of a coordination model and associated language is to provide a means of interfacing with each but also integrating together a number of, possibly heterogeneous, components in such a way that the collective set forms a single application able to execute on and take advantage of parallel and distributed systems. The purpose of this tutorial will be to present in sufficient detail the fundamental concepts of what constitutes a coordination model and language and discuss ways of applying this new formalism to a number of application areas. The tutorial will be useful to researchers and practitioners in the areas of Programming Languages and Parallel Computing but also anyone using parallelism to enhance the performance of his/her application.
