SIGAPP Student Travel Award Program

The SIGAPP Student Travel Award Program (STAP) exists to provide support
to help SIGAPP student members to attend conferences and workshops sponsored or co-sponsored by SIGAPP where they are the primary author and presenter of the paper. It is expected that these funds will be applied for only when it would not be possible to attend otherwise. The deadline for applications will normally be the deadline for registering as "paper author" for the given conference/workshop. Applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis. Expenses that will be considered for coverage include registration fees for the conference or workshop, travel expenses to and from the conference or workshop and shared accommodation expenses while attending the conference or workshop. Note that meal expenses will not be covered by the SIGAPP STAP funds. The awards range from $400 to $800 depending on type of travel (intercontinental or intra-continental) and the applicant pool and their needs. SIGAPP expects institutions to share costs in the funding of students. Conferences in cooperation with SIGAPP may also be considered, depending on available funds.

Students may join SIGAPP for a very nominal fee ($8) and become eligible for this funding. Only SIGAPP student members are eligible for this award. Please see this URL for more details:

Please pay strict attention to the application submission requirements listed in the application form (PDF) or application form (Word) to speed consideration of your request. The application must include:

    - student resume
    -
    detailed travel budget
    - reference letter from the student's advisor(s)

The letter should confirm the budget and state why SIGAPP should support your travel.

All required documents must be received together as email attachments. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The STAP application deadline for SAC 2008 is November 1, 2007 (Please note that SAC 2008 Author Notification deadline is October 16, 2007).
